
The ICAO Asia and Pacific Regional Office celebrated ICAO’s 80th Anniversary on16 December 2024 with over 130 invited guests from key aviation stakeholders i.e. Thailand’s Ministry of Transport, Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, Department of Airports, Airports of Thailand, AEROTHAI, CATC, and distinguished representatives from the United Nations and various Embassies in Thailand. The event kicked off with the inspiring video message from the President of the Council of ICAO and the ICAO Secretary General. This was followed by a keynote address by the Regional Director and an engaging overview of ICAO APAC activities presented by the ICAOAPAC team led by the Deputy Regional Director. The Director General of the CAA Thailand representing the Host Country and the President of AEROTHAI in their remarks expressed continued support and re-affirmed their commitment to work closely with the ICAO APAC Office under the theme “Safe Skies. Sustainable Future: Together for the next 80 years.” The event concluded with a memorable cake-cutting ceremony to celebrate this special occasion followed by a reception. ICAO APAC RSO, the United Nations in China, and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) have co-hosted a reception to mark the 80thanniversary of the Convention on International Civil Aviation. The event took place on 6 December 2024, at the UN Compound in Beijing, bringing together representatives from Asia Pacific Embassies, Chinese Senior Officials, and aviation industry leaders.

On 26th May, ICAO APAC RSO visited the Operations Supervision Center (OSC) of CAAC and toured the operation hall. OSC introduced their main responsibilities, system setup, and the use of A-CDM and TAM in China. VariFlight shared a real case of system use in operations. The visit helped both sides better understand each other’s work, and RSO encouraged China to join ICAO meetings and workshops more actively. Both sides agreed to keep in touch and strengthen future cooperation.

C/RSO gave lectures on ICAO 80th anniversary at the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics(BUAA) in Beijing, attended by 80 students and at the Civil Aviation Flight University of China(CAFUC) in Chengdu, attended by 400 students and at the Civil Aviation University of China(CAUC) in Tianjin, attended by 150 students on 11 November, 13-15 November and 18 November 2024, respectively. The objectives of the lectures were to open the mind of young aviation professionals to international aviation framework and to motivate them to work in the civil aviation industry, as well as to increase visibility of ICAO and ICAO APAC Regional Sub Office. All the lectures were previously coordinated and funded by CAAC.
