AFI Aviation Week Events

Day 1: Monday, 26 May 2025:  

• AFCAC Coordinated Meeting of the Directors General of Civil Aviation of the Africa-Indian Ocean Region (AFI-DGCA) Click to view

Objectives:

• To review the latest developments in aviation, the evolution of the aviation performance in all ICAO strategic objectives in the AFI region, key priorities and issues related to capacity building in the region.

 
Participants:

• Directors General of Civil Aviation of the AFI region, to be accompanied by technical experts as necessary, to take full advantage of the meeting’s deliberations; and
• Invited representatives of international and regional organizations, aviation stakeholders and industry.

Day 2,3 & 4 : Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday, 27 - 29 May 2025:
 

• AFI Aviation Symposium Click to view

Objectives: 

• To discuss various initiatives in and for Africa, share success stories and challenges, and agree on relevant strategies to further enhance aviation performance in the region. The symposium will also discuss the AFI region aviation future in the context of the new 2026-50 Strategic plan of ICAO. 

 
Participants: 

• Directors-General of Civil Aviation and Representatives of AFI region Member States; and
• Representatives from partner States, international and regional organizations, aviation stakeholders and industry

 
Day 3 & 4:  Wednesday / Thursday 28 - 29 May 2025:    

Meeting of the AFI Plans SC (AFI Plan, SECFAL and HRDF) – Closed Session

• Fourteenth Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Comprehensive Regional Implementation Plan for Aviation Security and Facilitation in Africa (AFI SECFAL Plan)Click to view

Objectives: 

• To review activities of the AFI Plan, the AFI SECFAL Plan and HRDF in particular, consider the Report of the implementation of the Plans, work programmes and projects; review and discuss the 2025-2030 programmes documents and projects, including actions undertaken by the Ad-hoc Committee on the Plans organizational and governance matters as well as the activities performed to address the OIO evaluation recommendations of the two plans.

Participants:

• AFI Plan and AFI SECFAL Plan Steering Committee Members; and
• Invited Representatives of other Member States and International/Regional Organizations/Partners.

 

Day 4: Thursday, 29 May 2025:

Outcomes of the AFI week and Closing - Plenary

Objectives:  

• The secretariat presents the key outcomes of the AFI week to the plenary for consideration and further guidance.
   

Participants: 

• All Participants.

 
Day 5: Friday, 30 May 2025:

Side Events

• Side events and informal discussions on topics that are relevant to the AFI aviation week. Whilst the AFI week events are coordinated and facilitated by the Secretariat, the side event is based on request from the participants.
