Commercial Space Flight

ICAO’s current series of joint symposiums on aerospace with the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs concluded with the third event, the ICAO/UNOOSA Aerospace Symposium (SPACE 2017), held in Vienna, Austria, from 29 to 31 August. The outcomes of these symposiums were presented at the second Global Air Navigation Industry Symposium (GANIS/2) on 12 December 2017 and will be reported to the 2018 session of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS). Key observations included that the growing civil space sector needed to be safely interoperable with the existing global air traffic management (ATM) system and supporting infrastructure. The next step for the aviation community will involve discussions during the Thirteenth Air Navigation Conference (AN-Conf/13).
