Airport Vector Control involves taking control measures (such as spraying, trapping, etc.) against vectors, which IHR defines as "an insect or other animal which normally transports an infectious agent that constitutes a public health risk" with the aim of keeping a vector free area within the 400 meters airport perimeter as stated in the IHR.

The airport vector control register is intended to facilitate the sharing of such information and allow for the dissemination of appropriate information. State parties may apply vector control measures to conveyances arriving from an area affected by a vector-borne disease.

Basic requirements for vector control:

• Trained staff in adequate numbers.
• Resources for procurement of equipment, PPE & supplies.
• Support of engineering department/contractors to implement physical, mechanical and environmental control measures.
• Routine surveillance plan with linkages to referral centres.
• Larval & adult bioassay kits.
• Impact assessment plan.
