Description:

In March 2023, ICAO held a webinar on Artificial Intelligence (AI). In a year, a lot has happened on the AI scene, both on the front of the technology advancement, with the exponential rise in computing capabilities and in the area of governance, underpinned by the realization that the adequate framework should be established to allow for technologies to deploy their benefits to society at large. Join us on Tuesday, March 26 for a webinar that will focus on this latter element, the governance of AI.

Ms. Clare Stark (UN Coordination Officer, United Nations Educational , Scientific and Cultural Organization - UNESCO)

​Clare Stark has 20 years of experience working in international relations and strategic planning. As UN Coordination Officer in the Priority Africa and External Relations Sector at UNESCO, she is responsible for enhancing UN system wide coordination on emerging technologies, including on artificial intelligence, biotechnology and neurotechnology and developing strategic partnerships with UN entities and the private and public sector.  She is the technical co-chair of the High-Level Committee on Programmes Interagency Group on AI, bringing together 40 UN entities to strengthen the ethical development and deployment of AI to support the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Prior to this position, she served as Strategic Planning Officer in the Bureau of Strategic Planning at UNESCO where she supported the development of the Organization’s Medium-Term Strategy and Programme and Budget, and led on issues related to UN reform, sustainable development and multilateral cooperation.  She has coordinated and contributed to a number of UNESCO’s publications. She holds a Master’s degree in International Environmental Policy  from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the College of Charleston. She is bilingual in French and English.

Ms. Sadhvi Saran (Advisor on Artificial Intelligence and Cyber, Emerging Technologies Division, International Telecommunication Union - ITU)

​​Sadhvi Saran is a Strategy and Policy Advisor in the Emerging Technologies Division at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) – the UN’s specialized agency on technology. A lawyer, with experience spanning the private and multilateral sectors, her work at ITU focuses on international policy related to Internet governance, security and AI. Sadhvi holds a Master of Laws in International Law degree (LL.M.) from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and a B.A.,LL.B. (Corporate Law Hons.) from the National Law University, Jodhpur.

Guillaume Soudain, Programme Manager - Artificial Intelligence, European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)

​Guillaume Soudain has been working for the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) since 2006, first as 'Software and Airborne Electronic Hardware Expert' in the Agency's Certification Directorate. In 2014, he was appointed 'Software Senior Expert', in charge of the coordination of software aspects of certification within the Agency, before taking his current role of 'EASA AI Programme Manager'. Guillaume is responsible for EASA's AI Programme since 2022, continuing to lead efforts to implement EASA's AI Roadmap. Since 2018, he has been at the forefront of driving innovation and ensuring safe deployment of AI in aviation through his leadership of EASA's action plan on AI. Guillaume is EASA Representative in the joint EUROCAE WG-114 / SAE G-34 working group on artificial intelligence, as well as in the joint EUROCAE WG-117 / RTCA SC-240 effort on Software Advancement. Previously he was also an active member the EUROCAE WG-71/RTCA SC-205 joint committee, in charge of producing and maintaining the Software standard ED-12C/DO-178C and its associated documents, as well as EASA Representative in the associated Forum for Aeronautical Software (FAS). Before joining EASA, Guillaume worked for 5 years, from 2001 to 2006, as a 'Software Engineer' in the development of automatic flight control systems in the European rotorcraft industry.
