Sustainable Aviation Fuel represents one of the most impactful pathways to decarbonise global air transport, however, scaling production requires significant and timely investment. ICAO Finvest Hub provides financiers with a means to connect with a curated repository of SAF projects, potentially leading to partnerships, investment, or financing.
As ICAO Finvest Hub develops, we will look to convene the financial community and conduct focused events or workshops aimed at developing and promoting financial solution specific to specific to SAF project development and risk reduction. Financiers are essential to unlocking the scale-up of SAF. ICAO Finvest Hub invites financial institutions, investors, and development banks to go beyond traditional lending and design innovative financial solutions, such as blended finance structures, green bonds, and sustainability-linked loans, that lower entry barriers for SAF projects. Financiers can develop and deploy risk-mitigation instruments such as guarantees and insurance products to currency hedging that address key project uncertainties. Concepts to reduce offtake risk such as structuring forward-purchase agreements or supporting creditworthy offtakers are needed too.
By participating in ICAO FINVEST Hub, financiers can play a critical role in bridging the capital gap, advancing aviation’s energy transition, and driving economic opportunities, particularly in developing and emerging markets.
