Fly Green Fund
ObjectiveTo create scale, bridge the current premium for sustainable biojet fuels and to enable investments in the development of sustainable bio-jet fuel production from forestry residues and waste in the Nordic region. DescriptionThe Fly Green Fund is a non-profit organisation and a corporate sustainable biojet fuel programme. It was launched in 2014 by its founders SkyNRG, Karlstad Airport and Nordic Initiative for Sustainable Aviation (NISA) and is supported by Swedavia (a Swedish state-owned airport operator) and the Swedish Regional Airport Association. Through this synergy, the partnership aims to generate funds to help airlines buy and use sustainable biojet fuels for flights on a regular basis, as well as support development of local supply chain projects based on local feedstocks. 75% of the foundation’s money will be used to pay the additional cost for bio jet fuel in comparison with fossil jet fuel. 25% of the funds will be used to support supply chain projects, market development, knowledge sharing and research of local production. The Fly Green Fund is not limited to particular airlines or other stakeholders from the aviation industry, as it offers all consumers and companies the opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint from air travel by the use of sustainable biojet fuels. The Fly Green Fund does specifically invest in the development of sustainable aviation fuels supply chains in the Nordic region. The fund is currently supporting three projects: | Category Deployment Value-chain step Full value-chain Type of pathway Forestry residues and waste to fuel Starting time and duration 2014 - Stakeholders Airlines, Airport, Biofuel Producers, Research Institutes, Corporates, Travelers Regional scope Regional Involved countries Sweden Status On-going |
