ICAO is committed to the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the respective Sustainable Development Goals. In view of the Global Gender Gap Report 2022, despite the efforts, the aviation industry is way behind the achievement of gender equality. The representation of women in the aviation industry accounts for a minor percentage of the general workforce and this representation contrasts their participation in the general roles. The disparity of representation is more evident in their presence in technical and/or specialized roles.
This contrast underscores the challenges and opportunities within the industry. Addressing the disparity is not only a matter of equity and social obligation as it has significant economic impact in realizing the room for growth and the potentials gained in capturing the pool of talents that may lead to increasing diversity and driving innovation within the industry.
The realization of gender equality relies on the firm commitment of States and industry leaders to promote diversity at all levels. MID States collaboration with the industry’s stakeholders is essential particularly in the formalization of policies and in setting the path towards gender equality. The ICAO-MID Office is committed to support its accredited member States and their stakeholders in pursuit of a stronger commitment for change.
