Two types of studies have been developed under ACT-SAF, that are designed to support specific Member States. They follow the templates and guides published on this page.
The ACT-SAF feasibility studies provide a general assessment of the potential of SAF production on a State or region, including a preliminary evaluation of all feedstocks that could be available for SAF production, financing and capacity building needs, and an action plan for establishing an efficient and sustainable value chain for SAF.
Building upon the results of a feasibility study, the ACT-SAF business implementation studies provide support for States where prospects for the development of SAF have already been identified. These studies include a detailed analysis of the shortlisted feedstock/pathway, supplemented with sustainability and life-cycle assessments, assessments of SAF production costs, market supply/demand, and technical-economic analysis.
Since 2017 ICAO has undertaken many feasibility and business implementation studies in support of its Member States. These studies are entirely funded by voluntary financial contributions provided by France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Airbus, Italy, Switzerland, Volaris, and Spain. The status of all these studies is detailed on the dashboard below. Additional activities are being planned with a new contribution from the Republic of Korea and with remaining funds from existing contributors.

In addition to financing studies conducted by ICAO, ACT-SAF partners can offer support directly in the form of partner-led studies following the ACT-SAF templates and guidance. Currently, such support is underway from Airbus, EASA and ICF (funded by the UK). These partner-led ACT-SAF studies are included in the general feasibility study tracker. This section will be updated with more information soon.
