ICAO FRMS Symposium
30 - 31 August

Third Annual Meeting of the FRMS Forum
1 - 2 September

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) invites its Member States, operators, industry representatives and scientists to its first Fatigue Risk Management Systems (FRMS) Symposium in Montréal, Canada from 30 to 31 August 2011.

  • The Symposium will address themes related to the oversight and implementation of FRMS. It will examine the scientific principles that should form the basis of both prescriptive and non-prescriptive fatigue management regulations and will focus on the more controversial issues for States and operators, including the role of biomathematical models in FRMS, and relationship between FRMS and safety management systems (SMS).
  • Interpretation services will be provided in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. There will be no registration or entrance fees.
  • There will be no registration or entrance fees.

Key note speaker:

Mr. J. Randolph Babbitt
Administrator, FAA

Scheduled speakers include:
  • R. Curtis Graeber, PhD. - ICAO’s FRMS Task Force Leader
  • Mark R. Rosekind, PhD. - Member, National Transportation Safety Board
  • Bill Voss - President and CEO of the Flight Safety Foundation
  • Philippa Gander, PhD - Director, Sleep/Wake Research Centre, New Zealand

Following the Symposium, ICAO will also host the Third Annual Meeting of the FRMS Forum from 1 to 2 September 2011.

  • The FRMS Forum provides a vehicle for industry specialists to share knowledge and experiences of creating, implementing and overseeing an FRMS. This meeting will further develop themes related to the regulation and implementation of FRMS with a more hands on approach, and will include comparisons of various fatigue modelling software and a sharing of best practices for various operational contexts. The content will have high relevance to operators and regulators alike.
  • The meeting will be conducted in English only with no interpretation services.
  • Further information about the FRMS Forum may be found at http://www.frmsforum.org/

These synergistic events will be held in succession to encourage wide participation, provide an opportunity for States and operators to discuss their views and challenges related to FRMS implementation and to reduce travel costs for those who will wish to attend both meetings. This offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into a non-prescriptive approach to fatigue management.
