He is a world-leading authority on the science of aviation turbulence. As well as discovering that turbulence is increasing because of climate change, he co-developed an award-winning turbulence forecasting algorithm that has made billions of passenger journeys smoother and safer. He has published two books and over 80 papers in leading scientific journals. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Institute of Physics, and Royal Meteorological Society. Dr. Georgia Lykou works in Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) as Head of Environmental Protection Regulation and Oversight Section. She is Member of ICAO Technical Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP), while she represents Greece in International Environmental Forums, European Aviation and Environment Working Group (EAEG), Refuel Aviation MS Network, Expert Group on Climate Change Policy, and other environmental related European & International groups.
For more than 15 years she has been working for HCAA as Energy Engineer and Air Traffic Safety Electronics Engineer in Environmental Protection Section, Technical Services Department, and Air Navigation Systems & Infrastructure Management Division.

With over seven years of experience in the airport industry, he has worked across airport operations, safety, security, environmental management and sustainability, giving him a practical understanding of the operational and environmental challenges faced by airports. In his current role, he contributes to AERIA's CSR and sustainability initiatives, supporting efforts to improve environmental performance and integrate responsible practices into airport operations. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and has completed specialized training in Airport Environmental Management and Sustainability with ACI Africa, covering key areas such as carbon management, waste, energy, water and environmental management systems.

Karsten Uhing is a Senior Project Manager and Research Associate in the Aviation Logistics Department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML). With a background in economics and training as a helicopter pilot, he combines operational aviation expertise with research and innovation management.
He has more than 20 years of experience managing international projects that support structural and systemic transformation. In his current EU-funded work, he focuses on advancing the green and digital transition of aviation within the European transport system. His work aims to develop resilient, future-ready airport operations that preserve aviation's social and economic benefits while reducing environmental and societal impacts and adapting to changing conditions such as climate change.
Karsten is part of a team leading European research and innovation clusters on zero-emission airside operations and circular airport operations. These clusters coordinate and build on the results of the EU Green Airports projects TULIPS, STARGATE, and OLGA, while connecting early implementers across the sector.

Kiran Gowda is Advisor-Transport Sector Resilience at Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI). He advises governments, organizations and other key stakeholders of infrastructure on adaptation and resilience initiatives. He leads Global Transport initiatives on Disaster Resilience of Airports and Seaports. His broad experience covers technical, policy and investment advisory on development projects focused on transport and allied sectors to include climate and disaster resilience. His work is predominantly in South and Central Asia, Pacific and Caribbean countries lately expanding to Africa and Latin America. In the past, he was associated with the World Bank, USAID and Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. He holds Masters in Transportation Engineering from BITS Pilani. He was also Fellow of first cohort on Indo-Pacific Safe and Sustainable Infrastructure Program in 2024. He has also been recognized by several countries for contribution on transport resilience.
Asmeeta Das Sharma

Asmeeta Das Sharma is a Climate Resilience Lead at Netherlands Airport Consultants, with over 10 years of international experience in aviation, infrastructure, urban planning, and resilience strategy. She specializes in helping airports identify climate-related risks, assess vulnerabilities across infrastructure and operations, and develop practical adaptation pathways that strengthen resilience and support long-term business continuity.
She currently leads climate risk assessments and adaptation planning programmes for major airports in the Middle East and India, where her work focuses on translating climate science and risk analysis into actionable investment and operational strategies for airport operators. Asmeeta also leads global resilience initiatives with the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), developing guidance for airport operators and regulators on climate preparedness, disaster resilience, and adaptation planning.
With a systems-thinking approach and a background in architecture and urbanism, she brings deep insight into how aviation stakeholders can prepare for and respond to increasingly frequent and severe climate-related disruptions.
Ian Jopson

Ian has more than thirty years' experience in the sphere of environmental aviation issues in Europe and beyond, working for the UK Civil Aviation Authority and an independent consultancy. He is currently Director of Sustainability at NATS, which provides air traffic services to over 2.5 million flights a year and at the biggest airports in the UK. Ian was part of the environmental research team in the Single European Sky ATM Research programme, SESAR. He is a director and member of the Council of the UK Sustainable Aviation coalition focused on cleaner quieter smarter flying. He is also a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society's Greener by Design Steering Group. Ian advises the UK state member of ICAO's Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection and works with ICAO's Airports and Operations environmental working group.
Genevieve Toh

Genevieve Toh is Chief Marketing Officer at FlyORO, a Singapore-based company that develops modular fuel blending infrastructure for sustainable aviation fuel. She began her career in banking and finance before moving into renewable energy, and has worked in the SAF sector for the past seven years. Her focus is the operational and commercial layer of SAF deployment: how fuel moves through existing supply chains, how blends are produced and certified to specification close to the point of use, and what airports, fuel handlers, suppliers and airlines each need in place before volumes can scale. At FlyORO she leads partnerships, market development and external engagement, working with airport operators, fuel handlers, suppliers and regulators. She has supported deployments in Singapore and Australia, and has a particular interest in the role of airports as infrastructure enablers – how asset ownership, access arrangements and terminal configuration shape the competitiveness and resilience of future fuel supply chains.
Dr. Neil Dickson

Dr. Neil D. leads the development of global standards and policies aimed at reducing the environmental impact of international aviation. With over two decades of experience in sustainable aviation, engineering, and atmospheric sciences, Neil has served ICAO since 2011, initially as an Environment Officer and later assuming his current leadership role in 2016. Prior to joining ICAO, he worked as a specialist consultant in sustainable aviation and held engineering roles at QinetiQ and DuPont. Neil holds a PhD in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Cambridge and a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Hertfordshire. Based in Montréal, he is a driving force behind aviation's transition toward environmental sustainability.
David Brain
ICAO Coordinator, Environmental / Operational Expert

David Brain works as the ICAO Coordinator at the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) responsible for coordinating the technical contributions between EUROCONTROL and ICAO. With close to 30 years experience in Air Traffic Control and Air Traffic Management, David takes an active role in several ICAO Panels, Study Groups and Task Forces and has co-chaired the Airports and Operations Working Group (WG2) of the Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) since 2020. David has an en-route ATCO background in the UK, a Private Pilots license and a MSc in Sustainable Aviation.

Eng. Abdelghafar Elsayed Abdelhalim is an aviation executive and ICAO Subject Matter Expert in aviation safety and environmental protection, currently serving as General Director of Aircraft Ground Handling Inspections at the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority. With over 25 years of experience, he has played a pivotal role in advancing Egypt’s aviation environmental strategy and strengthening regional and international cooperation on sustainability and climate initiatives.
Representing Egypt at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection, he previously served as CAEP Vice-Chairperson for two consecutive terms and co-led technical work on “aircraft end-of-life management and recycling”.
He also serves as Chairperson of the Environment Committee of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, contributing to aviation environmental and capacity building initiatives across Africa and the Arab region.
Rachel Burbidge

Rachel Burbidge has been leading EUROCONTROL's work on climate change adaptation and resilience since 2009, authoring the organisation's ground breaking Challenges of Growth work on Climate Adaptation, and several peer reviewed journal articles. She co-chairs the European Aviation Climate Change Adaptation Working Group with ACI-EUROPE and leads the climate adaptation and resilience work of the ICAO Committee on Aviation and Environmental Protection (CAEP) Airport and Operations Working Group.
Rashid Kizhakkayil

Rashid Kizhakkayil is Head of Environment and Sustainability at Sharjah Airport Authority, United Arab Emirates, with more than 17 years of experience in aviation environmental management, sustainability and airport decarbonization. He leads Sharjah Airport's strategic sustainability agenda, including environmental management systems, greenhouse gas accounting and reporting, carbon reduction programmes, waste management, circular economy initiatives, stakeholder engagement and Net Zero strategy development. He has played a leading role in Sharjah Airport's long-term participation in the ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation programme and its journey towards carbon neutrality, contributing to its recognition as the first carbon-neutral airport in the GCC.
Rashid has extensive experience working with aviation regulators, international organizations and industry bodies, including ICAO, UAE GCAA and ACI. He is a member of the ICAO CAEP Working Group 2, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East Regional Environment Committee and the UAE Aviation Environment Working Group.
An experienced speaker and contributor to international aviation sustainability forums, Rashid has previously presented at the first ICAO Green Airports Seminar in Montreal and has participated in various regional and international forums addressing airport carbon management, climate action, sustainable aviation fuels, waste management and environmental performance.
He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Aviation Law and Air Transport Management and an MBA.
Charlotte Verreydt

Charlotte Verreydt is a Sustainability Manager in the Strategy Department at Brussels Airport Company. She holds Master degrees in both Applied Economics and Global Management and, prior to working at Brussels Airport Company, Charlotte gained experience in consulting and project management roles where she led multiple projects while gaining experience across a range of industries.
Currently, Charlotte works on strategic projects related to sustainability and innovation within the airport environment. She is the Project Coordinator of STARGATE, a European initiative under the European Green Deal. The project brings together several airports and industry partners to test and implement practical and innovative solutions aimed at reducing the environmental impact of aviation, including work on decarbonization, local environmental quality and the modal split.
Stéphanie Wigniolle
Scientific Officer, Marine and Aviation Services Section - Science, Services and Capacity Development Department
World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
Ms Wigniolle has a master's degree in applied physics. She possesses extensive experience (30+ years) in the meteorology/aeronautical meteorology domain, at the national and international level. Prior to joining WMO she worked for Météo-France (the national meteorological service of France) in roles that included Head of the Division of Applied Research in Aeronautical Meteorology. Ms Wigniolle has served as vice-president of WMO's Commission for Aeronautical Meteorology and advisor to the ICAO Meteorology Panel Member nominated by France. Stéphanie joined WMO in 2021 as Scientific Officer within the Services for Aviation Division, now the Marine and Aviation Services Section. She is responsible for supporting WMO's work in the aeronautical meteorology and services for aviation domain, including the maintenance of WMO technical regulations and guidance, the technical support to WMO's Standing Committee on Services for Aviation and its subsidiary bodies and the provision of scientific and technical advice in the aeronautical meteorology domain to ICAO and other aviation stakeholders.
Elaf Raslan

Elaf Raslan is an Associate Programme Management Officer at the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), Regional Office for Arab States. Her work focuses on strengthening urban and infrastructure resilience and supporting governments and local authorities in advancing disaster risk reduction and resilience-building across the Arab region.
She supports the regional implementation of Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030), working with cities and national partners to assess disaster risks, strengthen resilience planning, and translate risk information into practical action. Her work also covers resilient infrastructure and recovery readiness, including the application of UNDRR tools and methodologies to strengthen institutional capacities and preparedness for recovery.
Prior to joining UNDRR, Elaf worked with UN-Habitat and GIZ and across urban planning, research, and academia. Her experience has focused on urban development, sustainable and resilient urban systems, and the integration of resilience considerations into planning and development processes. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Urban Planning from Ain Shams University in Cairo.

Ika Niyanti is a Senior Environment Officer for Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Transportation, Republic of Indonesia since 2010. Her special roles are to manage airport greenhouse gases emissions management and develop airport environmental regulations.
She is currently a member for DGCA Task Force on Mitigation of Climate Change and Reduction of Green House Gas Emissions from Aviation, engage in ASEAN Airport Environmental Management System Task Force as Technical Expert, and appointed as Indonesian expert to ICAO Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) Working Group 2 (WG2) Airport and Operations.
Ika held Bachelor Degree in Environmental Engineering from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya, and has passion in the initiatives of Sustainable Airport development.

Mr. Shin is an Assistant Manager in the Net Zero Team at Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC), where he is responsible for supporting the airport’s carbon neutrality and sustainability initiatives.
His work includes managing Incheon International Airport’s participation in the ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, including activities related to maintaining and advancing its carbon management practices. He is also involved in the publication of IIAC’s annual Green Report, which communicates the airport’s environmental performance, low-carbon initiatives, and sustainability efforts to external stakeholders.
In addition, he is currently working on the development of solar photovoltaic Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) projects to expand the use of renewable electricity at Incheon International Airport. Through these initiatives, he contributes to strengthening the airport’s carbon management, promoting its environmental and low-carbon efforts, and supporting its transition toward more sustainable airport operations.

She has played a leading role in the development of innovative nature-based solutions and carbon reduction initiatives, including ecosystem restoration and blue carbon projects.

Seif Afifi

His career spans nearly two decades across corporate finance, investment banking, and infrastructure development. He began his professional journey in finance at EFG Hermes in 2012 as an Intern in the Investment Banking division, where he gained his first experience in M&A, ECM, and DCM.
He then joined Ahli United Bank in Cairo as an Analyst covering the oil & gas, automotive, and manufacturing sectors, before joining Qatar Islamic Bank in 2014 as a Relationship Manager focusing on financing critical infrastructure projects leading up to the 2022 World Cup. He subsequently worked in several corporate banking roles including with Arab African International Bank and HSBC in Cairo, where he focused on various sectors including power & energy, textiles, oil & gas and agri-business.
In 2020, he moved to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London as an Associate Banker in the Infrastructure Turkey, Middle East and Africa team (currently the Sustainable Infrastructure Middle East and Africa team), where he leads important infrastructure transactions. In 2023, he was promoted to Principal Banker where he focuses on infrastructure investments in the Middle East, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa, managing portfolios and focusing on impact investing and policy development before moving to Cairo with the Bank in 2026.
His expertise includes debt and equity financing, project finance, capital markets, impact investing, and policy development, alongside strong leadership in managing diverse teams and stakeholders.

She leads the development of climate adaptation strategies to strengthen the resilience of critical transport infrastructure, with a focus on risk assessment, financing mechanisms, insurability, and climate change considerations in investment and M&A processes.
Prior to joining VINCI Concessions, Valentine worked across public institutions in France, academia in Sweden, the UNFCCC ecosystem, consultancy and Leonard, the VINCI Group’s innovation and foresight platform.
She specializes in translating climate risks into practical adaptation plans by mobilizing cross-functional teams, aligning global resilience objectives with local contexts, and identifying economically viable solutions. Combining expertise in strategic foresight, sustainable planning, and climate resilience, she supports infrastructure operators in preparing for an uncertain future while balancing operational, financial, and territorial challenges.
