Progress on ICAO’s Strategic Objectives and Global Plans — Safety — Regional safety and accident investigation organizations

Regional safety and accident investigation organizations

In 2021, the main focus of the RSOO Cooperative Platform was to support its members during the COVID-19 recovery phase, facilitate cooperation and peer support among regional safety oversight organizations (RSOOs), and garner support for RSOOs among various stakeholders. RSOOs that participated in the Global Aviation Safety Oversight System (GASOS) pilot assessments received assistance and guidance from ICAO in implementing their corrective action plans.

The regional accident and incident investigation organization and investigation cooperation mechanism cooperative platform (RAIO CP) was launched in close coordination with the ICAO Secretariat on 27 May 2021. The RAIO CP was launched with the full support of RAIOs, investigation cooperation mechanism stakeholders and ICAO Regional Offices. The objective of the RAIO CP is to support RAIOs and investigation cooperation mechanisms and to assist in the establishment of new ones. There are currently five RAIOs and investigation cooperation mechanisms, all of which form part of the RAIO CP. They represent 64 States.

Two surveys for RAIOs and investigation cooperation mechanisms were conducted, enabling the RAIO CP to identify baseline capabilities as well as challenges and opportunities.
