Winner of the Edward Warner Award
The importance of advocacy for progress towards ICAO’s vision was also recognized by the presentation of the Edward Warner Award, the greatest single honour that the international civil aviation community can bestow. Since 1959, the Award has recognized aviation’s most dedicated and accomplished leaders and contributors.
The Award was presented to the Air Crash Victims' Families' Federation International (ACVFFI).
The Award is named after Dr. Edward Pearson Warner. Dr. Warner was the lead Delegate of the United States for the 1944 Chicago Conference that established ICAO, then the first President of the ICAO Council during the Organization’s provisional years, from 1945 to 1947. He continued as President from 1947 until his retirement in 1957. Dr. Warner came to be known as one of the leading figures who helped transform civil aviation, from a fledging post-war industry into a structured and modern worldwide air transport system, based on international cooperation and consensus
