Building on the momentum generated by the First Joint ICAO/ACI/IATA Symposium on Accessibility held in Montréal, Canada, in December 2024, and recognizing accessibility as a strategic pillar of the global aviation system, the 42nd ICAO Assembly reaffirming that facilitation must also ensure dignity, non-discrimination, and protection of vulnerable and at risk travelers, including persons with disabilities and reduced mobility, including passengers with non-visible disabilities, the 2026 Symposium will provide a forum for States, industry, international organizations, and civil society to advance dialogue and commitment to implementation of accessibility measures across the entire air transport journey.
Under the Theme: “Advancing Global Commitment to Inclusive and Universally Accessible Air Transport for All”, the Symposium will examine progress achieved since the first global gathering, identify persistent barriers, and support States in implementing harmonized, end to end solutions in line with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices, particularly Annex 9 — Facilitation and relevant ICAO guidance material. The Symposium contributes toward achieving ICAO Assembly Resolution A42-14 and ICAO Strategic Goal “Aviation Delivers Seamless, Accessible and Reliable Mobility for All.
