ICAO Safety workshop, Paris, France - 13 May 2025

The ICAO EUR/NAT Office organized a safety workshop focused on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for safety data processing and analysis.

The event attracted significant interest, bringing together 40 participants from 23 States, 5 international organizations, and industry stakeholders.

During the workshop, participants discussed ICAO provisions related to safety intelligence and received insights on several key topics, including:

• Initial steps in adopting AI, such as identifying necessary preparations and exploring potential applications
• EUROCAE WG-114 standards on AI in aviation
• Safety data analytics and AI applications in air traffic management (ATM) safety analysis
• The taxonomy of machine learning and its role in developing AI systems
• The limitations of AI when applied to aviation safety data, and
• AI-assisted safety analysis
