Canso Leadership Summit and CANSO ATM Conference, Lisbon, Portugal - 12 to 15 May 2025

The EUR/NAT Regional Office participated in the CANSO Leadership Summit on 12 May 2025 followed by the CANSO ATM Conference and Exhibition on 13-15 May 2025. Both events were held in Lisbon, Portugal.

The theme of the CANSO leadership summit focused on transforming air traffic management (ATM) through digitalisation, automation, and cross-industry collaboration.

The ICAO's  contribution included participation as panelist in the CANSO Leadership Summit under the agenda item on higher airspace operations. At the CANSO Leadership Summit 2025, the panel on "Unlocking the Potential of Higher Airspace" was a key moment in the event, focusing on the safe and effective integration of high-altitude operations into global airspace frameworks. Higher airspace operations is a fast growing new entrant that was listed as no.4 on the list of the top 10 emerging technologies of the World Economic Forum in 2024.

Discussions at the Summit focused on the critical aspects of seamless integration of Higher airspace operations with the current and future global ATM system. CANSO committed to facilitating further dialogue among ANSPs, ICAO, and industry stakeholders to define operational concepts and airspace classifications for high-altitude operations.

Airspace World 2025 brought together thousands of global leaders in air traffic management (ATM), unmanned aviation, and higher airspace operations. The event addressed the most pressing challenges and innovations shaping the future of aviation. Key topics of the Conference also included integration of new entrants, enhancing civil/military cooperation and use of innovations, such as artificial intelligence, in aviation.
