Progress on ICAO’s Strategic Objectives and Global Plans — Economic Development of Air Transport — Cooperation with other international bodies

Cooperation with other international bodies

In 2021, ICAO used big data to provide guidance to the World Health Organization (WHO) on assessing the risks associated with the spread of communicable diseases through air travel. The purpose of such guidance is to ensure that facilities are in place to mitigate such risks and to avoid negative impacts on the sustainable growth of air transport.

ICAO also co-chaired the Working Group on E-Commerce established by the World Customs Organization (WCO) to discuss, in an open and constructive manner, opportunities and challenges stemming from growing e-commerce.

ICAO also established a new partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) with the objective of developing new digital air cargo technical specifications guidance that will help to accelerate the transition towards safer and more resilient supply chains, while making important contributions to COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.
