The Forty-Eighth Meeting of the ICAO EUR/NAT Data Management Group (DMG/48) was held from 16 to 18 June 2026 at the headquarters of the German Meteorological Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst – DWD) in Offenbach, Germany.
The meeting was attended by experts from Algeria, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Romania, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Representatives of the Russian Federation participated remotely. DMG/48 reviewed progress on regional activities related to the management, exchange, and monitoring of aeronautical meteorological information. Key discussions focused on IWXXM implementation, OPMET data quality monitoring, SWIM developments, RODC modernization, and preparations for METG/36.
The Group reviewed the status of IWXXM implementation across the EUR Region, including survey results, implementation challenges, validation procedures, translation centre arrangements, and inter-regional coordination. Participants reaffirmed the importance of a coordinated regional approach to support the transition to digital meteorological information exchange.
The meeting also reviewed OPMET monitoring results from ROC London and ROC Vienna, addressing issues related to missing and duplicate data, message formatting, and IWXXM validation. Discussions continued on performance monitoring and actions to improve the availability, timeliness, and quality of OPMET data.
In preparation for METG/36, the Group reviewed draft working papers on Special Air-Report monitoring, eANP Volume III performance monitoring, and other data management topics.
The meeting expressed its appreciation to Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) for hosting the event and for providing excellent facilities and support for the successful conduct of DMG/48.
The next meeting, DMG/49, will be held virtually from 4 to 6 November 2026.
