With the ​advent of big data and ever increasing computer power, artifical intelligence has risen significantly over the last years. Its applications relate mainly to the development of deap learning models for detection and classification of images, text and voice. 

ICAO's Activities in the field of AI

In the area of aviation, ICAO has engaged in various activities supporting mutliple initiatives in the domain

of articifial intelligence:

• Partnering in the UN AI for Good Annual Global summit, presenting work session on AI in aviation as well as participate in mobility sessions
• Hosting internships, developing in-house deep learning AI models showcasing natural language processing techniques for aeronautical information management as well as document summarization
• Supporting local AI company networks, start-ups and incubators such as Thales AI@Centech and Concordia District 3 by providing ideas and coaching
• Collaborating with McGill on the introduction of AI in aviation inside the McGill data science and machine learning program.
• Broadening the horizon of AI in aviation through workshops organized in collaboration with CRIAQ
• Exploring the creation of an AI in Aviation Focus Group under the hospices of ITU to address issues related to compliance and certification
• Collaboration with XPrize Foundation by providing AI challenges and participating in the Global Initiative on AI and Data Commons
  
• Collaboration with ITU on their United 4 Smart Sustainable Cities (U4SSC) initiative inlcuding the use of AI for urban mobility
• Participation in the EUROCAE Working Group 114 (WG-114) on Artificial Intelligence.
