ICAO Air Services Negotiation Conference

The ninth ICAO Air Services Negotiation Conference (ICAN2016) was held from 5 to 9 December 2016 in Nassau, Bahamas. The event was attended by air service negotiators representing 67 States and Territories, who conducted 430 bilateral meetings, leading to the signing or initialling of over 400 agreements (including many open skies agreements) and arrangements (such as Memorandums of Understanding, Records of Meeting or Agreed Minutes). As an added feature, ICAO and industry partners International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Airports Council International (ACI) conducted workshops on topical subjects of interest to participants. A roundtable discussion session was also organized on the theme “Expanding air transport market access for the benefit of Small Islands States” which provided a forum for policy makers, regulators and aviation stakeholders to exchange views and suggestions on key issues and solutions. As the event coincided with the International Civil Aviation Day on 7 December 2016, a special celebration was organized for the occasion where participants had an open dialogue with the President of the Council on the future of aviation, especially on ICAO’s No Country Left Behind (NCLB) Initiative. The Government of Sri Lanka announced its decision to host ICAN2017.
