Revenue and Product Management

The Ancillary Revenue Generation Fund (ARGF) results for 2016 outperformed budgeted targets, resulting in a surplus that contributed to the ICAO Regular Programme and additional work programmes of the Organization. The ARGF had targeted a contribution of CAD 5.1 million to the Regular Programme; this target was surpassed. A key reason for the strong operating results of the ARGF was a concerted effort to reduce operating costs by improving internal efficiencies. The Fund also benefited from a favorable USD/CAD exchange rate.

In 2016, ARGF revenues were strongest in publications, events and product licensing. Despite the challenges of moving publications into the digital environment, they were still the leading source of revenue. Some of the best revenue margins were realized in events and the licensing of ICAO’s intellectual property.

Efforts to expand revenue generation focused on capacity-building, particularly in the ICAO Regions. This additional capacity supported integrated global events which brought together workshops, symposiums, training and new products. In addition, capacity was strengthened in marketing and business intelligence to support the successful launch of new products and services, as well as the updating of existing revenue generating activities.
