Aeronautical Information Management for Unmanned Traffic Management (AIM for UTM)11 March 2021Link to recording

The objective of this webinar is to solicit input and discuss key-aspects related to the management of aeronautical information in a UTM environment. Specific issue to be discussed include:

1) understanding the specific roles and responsibilities assigned to the Aeronautical Information Service (AIS) provider in conjunction with other data service providers;

2) the scope of data and information to support UTM operations and associated requirements;

3) how data should be originated, processed and distributed to support UTM;

4) the technology required; and

5) what role should ICAO play in faciliating this service.

Expert speakers with various background, spanning from regulatory organizations, ATM and UTM service providers, industry, etc. will share their ideas and  suggestions as well as discuss the challenges that need to be overcome.

Road to Higher Autonomy4 March 2021Link to recording
This webinar will discuss trends in automation and increasingly automated systems that will operate in the airspace.  Additionally, the panelists will discuss the needs, benefits, challenges, technical capabilities, as well as operational approaches to the integration of increasingly automated systems, addressing both aircraft as well as air traffic management topics.  Furthermore, the panel will discuss how safety of increasingly automated systems is ensured and the acceptance of such system will be accomplished.
New Operating Environment and Flight Rules25 February 2021Link to recording

IATA has been working with an industry group on developing a concept paper for the future operation of new entrants taking into consideration advancements in technological application and increased reliance on automation (ground and airborne).  With the evolution of automation and machine vision systems, ‘perceiving’ traffic and a remote pilot’s ability to ‘see’ other traffic or obstacles in order to avoid collision will take on a new definition. With that, the role of the human in the loop will evolve into supervising the airspace and managing off-nominal situations. Within this webinar the guest speakers discuss future levels of automation and the requirements for flight rules concepts to ensure safety, scalability, and accessibility in any airspace.

RPAS International IFR Regulatory Framework1 December 2020Link to recording

The webinar provides an overview of ICAO's activities to support the safe development of remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) into the aviation system, primarily for international IFR operations. Following foundational background on ICAO's mandate to address unmanned aviation ("Why is ICAO involved in RPAS"), the webinar will cover the development of ICAO Standards ("What ICAO is doing") and will provide a status on the ICAO work conducted by  the RPAS Panel ("How ICAO is doing it").

Safety Management Systems (SMS) for UAS Operators3 November 2020Link to recording

This webinar will discuss the key features of a Safety Management System for UAS operators.  Discussions will also include how to develop and execute a SMS for UAS operators.

U-AID - Humanitarian Operations using UAS22 September 2020Link to recording

This webinar will present ICAO's guidance material for humanitarian aid and emergency response (U-AID) using UAS. Following an overview of this material and best practices, UA Operators who perform humanitarian operations (Drone Delivery Canada and GlobalMedic) will share their experiences. Additionally, the efforts by a new organization (UPDWG) who is intent on progressing "drone delivery data" collection will present their method to inform the efficacy of safe UAS operations, in a free access platform.

ICAO UTM Framework - Core Principles for Global Harmonization25 August 2020Link to recording

This webinar will provide an overview of the current ICAO UTM Framework. This framework has been developed by the ICAO UAS Advisory Group and is based on the information and best practices provided by industry, regulators and academia at the last three DRONE ENABLE symposia. The intend of the UTM Framework is to provide States with a framework, guidance material and core capabilities of a "typical" UTM system.

UAS Beyond Visual Line of Sight Operations (BVLOS) - for Regulators11 August 2020Link to recording

The webinar will provide a general understanding of BVLOS UA Operations, as well as an overview of some the different variations on BVLOS. The webinar will explain why there is so much interest in BVLOS, and will look at BVLOS from the perspective of the regulator (CAA). Considerations a regulator must make if asked to approve a BVLOS operation in their state will also be discussed.

This webinar is aimed at experienced aviation regulators with limited UAS exposure who are interested to learn more about BVLOS. Industry and others with a concern in how a regulator views BVLOS will also have an interest.

Introducing ICAO UAS Model Regulations23 July 2020Link to recording

This webinar will present an overview of the ICAO UAS Model Regulations developed to support UAS regulatory harmonization.  The companion supporting guidance material will also be presented.

Enabling UAS Operations Part II - Panel Discussion2 July 2020Link to recording

This will be the second of a two-part webinar which will include a panel discussion involving regulators and UAS Operators. The panel members will discuss the successes and challenges involved in BVLOS operations, including those related to humanitarian and lifesaving activities. Panelist will include the Rwandan CAA, Transport Canada, Zipline and Renfrew County Paramedic Services.

Enabling UAS Operations18 June 2020Link to recording

In this webinar, ICAO will address unique opportunities demonstrating the benefits of UAS during the current health crisis. The guidance information that will be presented will assist States and UAS operators to enable UAS operations safely and effectively. Topics of discussion during the webinar will include Safety Management, the UAS Tooklit, UAS model regulations, U-Aid Guidance (for humanitarian purposes), Carriage of Dangerous Goods, and the UTM framework.
