METG/28, Paris, France - 18 to 21 September 2018

​The Twenty-Eighth Meeting of the Meteorology Group (METG/28) of the European Air Navigation Planning Group was held at the ICAO EUR/NAT Office, Paris, France from 18 to 21 September 2018. The Meeting was attended by a total of 101 participants from 39 States, and 5 International Organizations.

 

The meeting reviewed implementation of Aviation System Block Upgrade (ASBU) Block 0 – AMET which indicated approximately 90% implementation in the EUR Region. Implementation of elements reviewed in this block included World Area Forecast System; volcanic ash events and exercises in the EUR/NAT Regions; SIGMET, AIRMET and special air-reports; and OPMET data requirements. Other topics reviewed included MET Support for Air Traffic Management; continued development of the electronic Air Navigation Plan, Volume III – Part MET; and MET deficiencies.

The meeting also addressed implementation of ASBU Block 1 – AMET and in particular the implementation of ICAO Meteorological Information Exchange Model (IWXXM). Some OPMET is distributed in IWXXM format for 9 States (including those with translation services by Regional OPMET Centres) and full implementation expected by November 2020 in accordance to Amendment 78 to Annex 3. Implementation of IWXXM is one of the prerequisites for System Wide Information Management (SWIM).
