ICAO EUR/NAT Virtual Runway Safety Action Team (RSAT) - 10 March 2021

Runway safety remains a top safety priority as indicated in the global and regional safety plans. It is recognized that one of the effective ways to manage and improve runway safety is through established local collaboration mechanisms referred to as Runway Safety Teams (RSTs).

In this regard the ICAO EUR/NAT have collaborated with FAA held a virtual workshop to share experience on effective RSTs. This ICAO EUR/NAT Virtual Runway Safety Action Team (RSAT) Presentation was held online, via WebEx platform on 10 March 2021. The session included information on the RSAT objectives, US National Airspace System (NAS) runway safety data and safety mitigation actions taken, FAA Safety Team (FAAST) and concluded by simulation of local RSAT meeting and development of Runway Safety Action Plan (RSAP).

The event was also supported by European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) – another important partner for ICAO in improving the runway safety. EASA shared plans for Global Reporting Format (GRF) implementation, new regulatory provision aimed to improve runway safety and further proposals to amend regulations to include mandating the establishment of local RSTs (NPA 2020-10). The importance of the latest revision and creation of Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Excursion was also highlighted (https://skybrary.aero/index.php/Global_Action_Plan_for_the_Prevention_of_Runway_Excursions_(GAPPRE)#:~:text=The%20Global%20Action%20Plan%20for,Flight%20Safety%20Foundation%20(FSF). )
