The ninth meeting of ICAO EUR/NAT Aviation Security Group (ENAVSECG 09) - 07 -10 December 2021

ENAVSECG 09 took place virtually from 07 to 10 December 2021.


The ICAO Secretariat provided the meeting with the latest updates on global developments including evolution of  Annex 17 and Annex 9 (Security related SARPs), the outcomes of the Global Aviation Security Symposium,  High Level Conference on COVID-19 (HLCC), meetings of ICAO Aviation Security and Facilitation Panels. The ICAO Working Group on Innovation in Aviation Security (WGIAS) and Working Group on Threat and Risk (WGTR) shared the results of their recent work.




ENAVSECG 09 deliberated on the outcomes of the actions undertaken by the secretariat to follow-up on the conclusions of ENAVSECG 08. The meeting discussed achievements shared by the States, International organizations and Industry in countering new and emerging threats, such as best practices on Cybersecurity, effective coordination of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) operations, development and implementation of contactless and remote technologies, introduction of innovative screening approaches and behavior detection, advantages and disadvantages of application of Artificial Intelligence.


States and Stakeholders agreed that more cooperation is needed and encouraged, while noting that ENAVSECG offers a platform to further explore, discuss and share achievements and proposals. 


In light of the ICAO Year of Security Culture (YOSC), ENAVSECG 09 discussed initiatives and activities undertaken by ICAO and ENAVSECG members and observers to support and promote the implementation of robust and sustainable Security Culture. Information on the ICAO Security Culture tools, States' joint campaigns, security occurrence reporting systems and role of national inspectors and coordinators was provided.


The meeting welcomed the report of the ECHO initiative on the progress made in mapping capacity building tools, analyzing States' prevailing AVSEC needs (including COVID-19 recovery) and working on the establishment of mechanism to link them together and agreed that there is a need to enhance the visibility of ECHO initiative.


The meeting appreciated the information shared by the coordinator of the ICAO Cooperative Aviation Security Programme Middle East (CASP-MID) on the activities undertaken by the programme to support States in the Middle East in their efforts to reach high level of Annex 17 implementation and commanded cross-regional cooperation. 


Participants from 35 States, nine international and regional organizations and six ICAO regional Aviation Security Training Centers attended the meeting.

 

The tenth meeting of ENAVSECG will take place in fall 2022.
