The ICAO EUR/NAT DGCA meeting was held on 20 June 2023, chaired by Ms. Simões and focusing on strengthening collaboration to ensure a sustainable future of air transport network in a safe, secure, efficient, resilient and inclusive manner.
Ms. Simões is the Chairwoman of the Portuguese Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) since November 2021 and has been a member of the Board of ANAC since 2016. Previously, she was legal advisor at the Portuguese Competition Authority, working in areas such as the evaluation of public policies, merger control and regulated markets, including aviation.
It is important to highlight that the Global Aviation Gender Summit 2023 was convened, in line with the ICAO Assembly Resolution A41-26. The Summit held in Madrid, Spain, from 5 to 7 July 2023, called for urgency on gender equality. A Call to Action was presented by the President of the ICAO Council, Mr. Salvatore Sciacchitano, including several clear and actionable steps and strategies towards resolving the aviation sector's gender equality challenges.
