MONTREAL, 6 March 2015 – Marking the first anniversary of his passing, on 27 February 2015 ICAO, friends and family paid homage to the late Assad Kotaite during a memorial at ICAO Headquarters in Montréal.
Looking back on the life of a “giant of international civil aviation,” the Memorial to the President Emeritus of the ICAO Council highlighted Dr. Kotaite’s origins, his political thought, his vision and his passionate support of peace and goodwill among the peoples of the world. Assad Kotaite was a senior United Nations civil servant whose various terms at the head of the ICAO Secretariat and the ICAO Council were renewed over a period of four decades, a singular achievement at a specialized agency of the United Nations.
The commemorative event was held under the institutional auspices of ICAO, Council President Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu and Secretary General Raymond Benjamin. Four hundred guests came together in the ICAO Assembly Hall to honour the memory and philosophy of an exceptional man. Mrs. Monique Kotaite addressed the attendees, thanking them for participating in the tribute to her late husband.
