Cooperation with UNODC for online workshop on biological terrorism

ICAO/LEB joined experts from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), International Maritime Organization (IMO), UN 1540 Committee and the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies to deliver an online awareness event on the International Legal Framework against Biological Terrorism on 29 September 2020. The event, organized by UNODC within the framework of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact Working Group on Emerging Threats and Critical Infrastructure Protection, gathered 219 participants from 41 Member States and 17 international organizations. The presentations included a briefing by LEB to participants on how the threat of attacks using biological agents or toxins are dealt with in the Convention on the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Relating to International Civil Aviation (Beijing Convention 2010). The event also provided a platform to promote the benefits of the Beijing Convention 2010 and thereby encourage States to ratify this treaty.
