Gender Equality

International Women’s Day, with the theme of “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights”, took place on 6 March 2020 at ICAO Headquarters in Montréal. As per past practice, this annual collaborative event between ICAO, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Airport Council International (ACI) was attended by staff from these organizations. The event featured female keynote speakers from the Council and Secretariat of ICAO as well as from Pratt and Whitney Canada, who shared their inspiring professional stories and provided a unique insight into equality in the aviation sector.

At various events, a great representation of women as speakers and panelists was encouraged. ICAO also supported UN gender campaigns through regular social media activities. In addition ICAO continued to be represented in UN-led platforms such as United Nations System-wide Action Plan (UN-SWAP) on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, Sustainable Mobility for All (SuM4All) Working Group on gender led by the World Bank, and the United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) task force on sexual harassment.

At the regional level, all the Regional Offices remained determined in implementing gender equality through outreach activities, and in their recruitment practices, in line with Resolution A39-30, as well as Resolution A40-21: Aviation’s contribution towards the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
