Visa and Travel Information

​Visas

Participants should ensure that their travel documents are valid prior to their departure to Ghana.  If requested, participants can obtain emergency visas upon arrival at the International Airport of Accra at the cost of $150.

The visa payment can be paid only in US Dollars in cash and in the Ghanaian local currency (Cedi).

​West African Nationals and UN passport holders are exempt from visas to Ghana. For full list of other countries and diplomatic/Service passport holders who do not require visas to Ghana, kindly visit http://www.ghanaimmigration.org/.

 

* Important information: In order for airlines to admit Delegates who would require visa upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport please download and print the invitation letter prior to your travel.

​Health

 

Participants must ensure they take travel insurance from their home country for the duration of their stay in Ghana, though not mandatory.
Presentation of Yellow Fever certificate at the point of entry is mandatory for all countries.  Failure to produce a certificate will result in Port Health officials vaccinating the passenger for a fee of $6

Local Currency and Foreign Exchange Rates

​The official currency is the Ghanaian Cedi (GHS). The current exchange parity is set at; US$1 = 4.2GHS and €1 = 4.3GHS. (Current exchange rate​

Local exchange is easily available in the banks and Forex Bureaus. Credit cards and travellers cheques are accepted in most establishments. Most shops and hotels accept Visa Cards.

 

Language

​The Official Language of the Country is English.

 

​​Hours of business

​The working week in Ghana runs from Monday to Friday (0800-1700hrs) with Saturday and Sunday being non official working days.

 

Ground Transportation

Transportation will be provided from the Airport to the designated hotels during arrival and departure of participants. Buses will also commute participants from their designated hotels to the meeting venue and back to their hotels at the end the end of every session. To avoid early morning and evening traffic jam, participants are highly recommended to choose hotels marked R for pick up and drop off.  Shuttle services will only be available from hotels marked R
Delegates can also rely on public transportation (taxi cabs) and Uber for their private use.

Local voltage is 220/240 V 50 Hz

​Sim cards of the following mobile operators (Vodafone, GLO, MTN, Tigo, Airtel) can be purchased at the airport, hotels, shops or by seeking assistance from the LOC members. ​​
