Official First Day Cover (front and back). The aircraft on the cachet looks like an Airbus A340-300 of Air Lanka (which was re-branded to SriLankan Airlines in 1998) at Bandaranaike International Airport. Note that the word ORGANISATION in the cancel (at Taj Samudra Hotel) should be written with Z instead of S. The name of the Organization is correctly printed in the cachet.

Philatelic notices (in English and in Sinhala -8 Pages) related to this issue and inserted in the FDC. In the English version, two inaccuracies are noticed: 1. In the second paragraph, it should be more rightly stated that, on 7 December 1944, the new Convention, named Chicago Convention, was signed (and not ratified) by the countries. ICAO formally came into existence on 4 April 1947, after the required 26 ratifications were received. The new Convention established the framework for the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). 2. At the beginning of the 3rd paragraph, the acronym of the Organization should be written: ICAO (and not IACO).
