The 32nd Session of the ICAO Assembly was officially opened by the President of the Council, Dr. Assad Kotaite. Please consult this web site for the President 's remarks.
The President also announced that the election to the Council in the first and second parts would be held on Saturday, 26 September, at 10:00. The election to the Council in the third part will take place in the afternoon of Tuesday, 29 September 1998. The maximum number of Contracting States to be represented on the Council was set as follows: Part I - 10 States; Part II - 11 States; and Part III - 12 States.
A major portion of the first day 's meeting was taken up with reports, administrative matters, and general statements delivered by the delegations of the Ukraine, United States, Vietnam, Yemen, Afghanistan, Algeria, Austria, Bahrain, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Brunei, Cameroon, Congo, Cyprus and the Czech Republic.
