Environment-related Standards and Guidance material on noise, local air quality and climate change

The 2020 CAEP Steering Group (SG) meeting was held in October. The meeting agreed on a new structure of Annex 16, Volume II and on the follow-up work for making Annex 16, Volume II consistent with the Standards for guidance. It also agreed on amendments to Annex 16, Volume II and Volume III, and ETM, Volume II and Volume III, which will be finalized at the CAEP/12 meeting in 2022.

For the subject of supersonics, the CAEP SG meeting discussed the continuation of the “Exploratory Study”, including aspects related to demand scenarios, consideration of uncertainties, and the necessary aircraft noise and emissions data. CAEP agreed to consider the development of Landing and Take-Off (LTO) noise, CO2, and LTO engine emission SARPs for supersonics, following the investigation into the elements for development of certification requirements at the end of the CAEP/12 cycle.

Regarding airports and operations, an additional and final set of three factsheets as part of the Climate Adaptation Synthesis document, together with its dissemination process and with a methodology to update it, were finalized by CAEP SG meeting. It also developed a new eco-airport toolkit e-publication,“Water management at airports”, a state of play report on the environmental impact of unmanned aircraft operations at and around airports, and the literature review report on possible indicators for encroachment.
