Citing his contributions to the global prestige of the region and country, along with his distinguished and high professional profile, knowledge of aviation law, and forty years of experience in leadership, the University of Messina awarded an Honoris Causa Research Doctorate in Legal Sciences to the President of the Council on 27 July 2021.
The honour was presented at a ceremony that was attended by the Rector of the University, Salvatore Cuzzocrea; the Director of its Department of Law, Francesco Astone; and University Dean Paolo Vittorio Giaquinta. The Laudatio was delivered by Professor Francesca Pellegrino.
