Following its conclusion in parallel to the ICAO Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) Global Summit, the winners of the inaugural Model ICAO Forum case study competition were congratulated by the UN agency’s Secretary General, Dr. Fang Liu (centre) and the President of Concordia Model United Nations (ConMUN) Mr. Andrei Bochis (far left).
Fifty-three students representing 19 universities participated in the Forum, which took place at ICAO’s HQ in Montréal. They studied global aviation’s challenges, and through the competition, proposed solutions to a panel of industry experts on unmanned aircraft systems, dangerous cargo, the socio-economic benefits of air transport, and capacity building and aviation security.
Four teams were adjudged winners after the first phase of the case study competition, who went on to compete against each other in the second phase.
Aaron Clark-Ashe (left), Marwa Ahmed (centre-right), Christopher Fabian (far right), and Malo Gueguen earned the title of overall winning team for their work on the socio-economic benefits of air transport.
The other winners of the first phase were:
• For Unmanned Aircraft Systems – Stefan Carciumaru, Marketa Kafkova, Yutong Miao, and Billy Shi
• For Dangerous Cargo – Shuai Hao, Soufia Trabdsi, Yasmina Lotfinia, and Jordan Bootle
• For Capacity-building and Aviation Security – Guangyue Li, Haoxing Liu, Santiago Daza, and Dieynaba Camara
The dynamism of the Model ICAO Forum contributed to the overall success of the NGAP Global Summit, which was attended by hundreds of delegates from the education and aviation sectors from around the world. The Summit was organised in response to ensure that sufficient qualified and competent aviation professionals are available to operate, manage and maintain the global air transport system as air traffic volumes are forecasted to double within the next 15 years.
