Page Image Image Caption Page ContentICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano conducted a mission to Singapore from 16-19 May 2022, during which he delivered the keynote address to the inaugural Changi Aviation Summitand undertook a variety of other activities in support of ICAO’s strategic objectives. During his mission to the city state, the President met with Singapore’s Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, Mr. S Iswaran; the Deputy Minister of Transport for Aviation of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Yong-Seog Kim; and the Minister of Transport of Indonesia, Mr. Budi Karya Sumadi; A major highlight of the President’s visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Singapore-ICAO Developing Countries Training Programme (DCTP) with Minister S Iswaran.The MOU extends the DCTP for another three years, from 2022 to 2025. Singapore will provide 330 fellowships and 10 scholarships, valued at US$1.6 million, towards the development of global aviation professionals. The President also joined Minister S Iswaran, the Director-General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Mr. Willie Walsh, and the Director-General of Airports Council International (ACI) World, Mr. Luis Felipe de Oliveira, in issuing the Changi Aviation Summit Joint Communique on Global Aviation Recovery, Aviation Sustainability and Inclusive Innovation. The Communique was supported by close to 30 States and civil aviation organizations, pledging to expedite the recovery of the global civil aviation sector from the COVID-19 pandemic, promote environmental sustainability, and support inclusive innovation for growth. Additionally, Mr. Sciacchitano jointly opened the first ICAO-Singapore DGCAs Programme on Aviation Resilience with Mr. Han Kok Juan, Director-General of Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore. More than 40 Directors-General of Civil Aviation from various countries attended these events, providing the President with a significant platform for an engaging dialogue.
