Bahrain bilaterals spotlight sustainable development


The Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa (centre), received the ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano (left) in Manama on 11 May 2022.

Bahrain’s Transport and Communications Minister Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed (right) and ICAO’s Middle East Regional Director Mohamed Abubakr Abdullah Farea were also present at the meeting, which served to confirm the cooperation between Bahrain and the ICAO, and provide a platform for identifying common interests and objectives.

His Highness praised the ICAO’s contributions to the safe, secure and sustainable development of aviation through its standard setting activities, and recognized civil aviation as one of the most important sectors supporting the achievement of sustainable development on a global level.

A separate bilateral meeting with the Minister focussed on enhancing international and regional cooperation with organizations concerned with the field of civil aviation, and knowledge exchange around aviation safety. The minister praised ICAO’s interest in supporting the ministry’s strategy of achieving the Bahrain’s Vision 2030 and sustainable development goals through the modernization and development of its aviation infrastructure.

In this regard, a variety of visits to Bahrain’s key aviation facilities were provided to the Council President, including to Bahrain International Airport’s (BIA) new Passenger Terminal, where the  the President was welcomed by Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) Chairman Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed and BAC Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah.
