The second Model ICAO Forum took place from 12 to 14 December 2018 in Shenzhen, China, as a side event of the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) Global Summit. The event was aimed at raising awareness on issues pertaining to civil aviation inspiring the new generation of aviation professionals.
The Forum engaged 180 university students, coming from 27 universities in 28 different countries, and was organized in conjunction with the Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics (CSAA) and the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government of Guangdong Province, with the support of Beihang University.
Participants worked together in teams to propose approaches to a specific aviation case study and presented the outcomes of their work to a panel of aviation experts. Four simultaneous workshops took place, with prizes awarded for the winning submissions. The four themes of the workshops were:
• Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS): Aviation for Next Generation
• Dangerous Air Cargo
• The Socio-Economic Benefits of Air Transport
• Aviation Security: Strengthening Aviation Security Systems
The Secretary General of ICAO, Dr. Fang Liu, awarded the UAS team as winners of the event, in recognition of their outstanding solution to a case study involving a safety assessment for UAS operations.
