Ministerial discussions lead to new capacity building commitments from Central African Republic

Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu (left), the President of the Council of ICAO, met recently with the Central African Republic’s Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Civil Aviation and Development, Mr. Theodore Jousso, to discuss steps towards addressing upcoming capacity building in the country.

At the meeting, President Aliu expressed expectation that the Central African Republic would continue to take important steps to increase its compliance with ICAO standards and recommended practices (SARPs). He encouraged Minister Jousso to identify the challenges confronting the country so that ICAO, together with the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC), could provide effective technical assistance through its No Country Left Behind (NCLB) initiative.

While reaffirming the commitment of his government at the highest level to improving the country’s aviation sector, and commending ICAO for its  NCLB support, Minister Jousso added that the Central African Republic’s shortfalls in human resources capacity posed challenges to its efforts in these areas.

President Aliu recognized these challenges and thanked the Minister for the steps to be taken before the end of 2017.
