International Association of Aviation and Aerospace Education takes off at Next Generation of Aviation Professionals Global Summit

A new International Association of Aviation and Aerospace Education (ALICANTO) will be launched following the signing of an agreement by 34 of the world’s prominent aviation and aeronautical universities.

In a sector which already benefits from strong and effective associations of global airlines, airports, aircraft manufacturers and other stakeholders integral to coordinated air transport progress, ICAO has welcomed the ALICANTO initiative as filling an important gap in air transport’s global cooperation framework.

Forged on the side-lines of ICAO’s Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) Global Summit, conducted this December  in Shenzhen, China, the agreement underscores the key importance today of the overall NGAP programme in bringing together States, educational and training institutions, United Nations organizations, industry and other actors to address existing and future aviation personnel shortages. The signing was observed by the Secretary General of ICAO, Dr. Fang Liu.

The partnering universities further recognized that that their aligned participation and input is critical in order to identify and implement effective approaches to attract, educate and retain the next generation of aviation professionals.
