The 2023 Stocktaking will build upon the success of the 2022 ICAO Stocktaking which inspired the journey towards the ICAO long-term global aspirational goal for international aviation (LTAG) of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, agreed during the 2022 ICAO 41st Session of Assembly, marking a significant milestone for the international aviation sector towards its decarbonization.

While the LTAG Stocktaking events covers all aviation in-sector CO2 reduction measures and innovations, including technologies, operations, fuels and cleaner energies to monitor the progress towards the achievement of the LTAG, the focus this year will be on fuel and clean energy-related approaches, innovations and solutions, showcasing the latest information from States, industry and other stakeholders, in the lead up to the third Conference on Aviation Alternative Fuels (CAAF/3) in November 2023.

The 2023 LTAG Stocktaking will be followed by pre-CAAF/3 Policy and Finance Consultation Sessions to initiate the consultation among States, focusing on policy and finance matters, with involvement of public and private financial institutions and other relevant stakeholders, to consider relevant elements of a global framework for aviation cleaner energy, bearing in mind that it will not be a decision-making event.

During the three-day event, a simultaneous exhibition (including a "SAF-LAB Exhibition") will be held on site at ICAO Headquarters, which will showcase various stages of fuel-related supply chain, such as feedstock, processing, distribution and certification, as well as broader CO2 emissions reduction innovations related to technology, operations and fuels, to foster a deeper understanding and wider view on the basket of measures to support the achievement of the LTAG.
