The opening segment will set the scene for the Forum through a high-level introduction on CORSIA highlighting past achievements and providing a vision for the future of the Scheme.

SESSION 1:

CORSIA PACKAGE TODAY: EN ROUTE AS PER THE FLIGHT PLAN

 

Session 1 will highlight the achievements on CORSIA and will present experiences from States in the implementation of the Scheme since the inception of the Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) requirements on 1 January 2019. It will also focus on the very successful capacity building efforts under the ICAO Assistance, Capacity-building and Training for CORSIA (ACT-CORSIA) programme, with an emphasis on the CORSIA buddy partnerships, lessons learned and possible improvements.

SESSION 2:

CORSIA IMPLEMENTATION ON THE GROUND: STATES’ EXPERIENCES AND CAPACITY BUILDING

 

Session 2 will elaborate on essential components of the CORSIA package, specifically on data reporting and on upcoming challenges regarding CORSIA Eligible Fuels (CEFs) and CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units (CEUs). It will also provide the opportunity to discuss the need for more capacity-building under the ICAO ACT-CORSIA programme.

  • Status of CO2 data reporting to CORSIA Central Registry (CCR), and calculation of aeroplane operator’s CORSIA offsetting requirements – Mr. Tetsuya Tanaka, ICAO Secretariat
  • CORSIA eligible fuels (CEF) to reduce the offsetting requirements, and ongoing CAEP work on sustainability criteria and fuel certification – Mr. Jim Hileman (CAEP FTG co-Rapporteur) and Mrs. Kristin C. Lewis (CAEP SCSEG co-Rapporteur)
  • CORSIA eligible emissions units (CEU) to comply with the offsetting requirements, and ongoing TAB assessment of programmes – Ms. Molly Peters-Stanley (TAB Chairperson)

SESSION 3:

CORSIA AND COVID-19

 

Session 3 will focus on the impacts of COVID-19 on CORSIA, and a series of remedial measures and decisions taken by ICAO to ensure the implementation of CORSIA. It will also discuss ongoing technical analyses of the COVID-19 impacts on CORSIA, including the recovery scenarios of international aviation CO2 emissions and the implications of CORSIA baseline emissions to the offsetting costs to aviation industry.

SESSION 4:

CORSIA: THE ONLY GLOBAL MBM – WHAT’S NEXT?

 

Building on the successful implementation of CORSIA, Session 4 will focus on the next steps, including the ongoing ICAO process for the 2022 periodic review of CORSIA and expectations from the 41st Session of the ICAO Assembly. The roundtable discussion is expected to provide insight in relation to the future role of CORSIA as the global MBM in terms of more active engagement of States, and the relationship of CORSIA with the ambition levels of ICAO global aspirational goals for international aviation.
