The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), in cooperation with the Civil Aviation Authority of Madagascar and the Ministry of Tourism, Transport and Meteorology, will convene a meeting on the Sustainable Development of Air Transport in Africa in Antananarivo, Madagascar, from 25 to 27 March 2015. The event will be officially opened by  Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, President of the Council of ICAO.
 
The objective of this event is to identify and implement interventions required to optimize the regulatory framework for the sustainable development of air transport in Africa. The meeting will address key issues such as the synergies between air transport and tourism; connectivity and air transport development; regulatory responses aimed at passengers; the role of international agreements to achieve balanced liberalization; the impact of taxation on the development of air transport; the cost of regulatory differences and best practices to enhance regulatory convergence.
 
The event is expected to attract a broad range of experts from civil aviation authorities, the air transport industry, academics, air transport lawyers and consultants. Speakers will include high level representatives from States, international organizations, airlines, airports, aircraft manufacturers, freight forwarders and financing institutions.
 
It is expected that the outcome of the interactive discussions taking place during the meeting will provide valuable views from civil aviation stakeholders and assist towards the achievement of the Strategic Objective - Economic Development of Air Transport in Africa. The meeting is expected to result in the adoption of a Declaration on the Sustainable Development of Air Transport in Africa.
