The VOLCEX19 Preparatory Workshop was held at the ICAO EUR/NAT Office, Paris, France from 2 to 3 October 2019. The objectives of the workshop were to 1) Review the Volcanic Ash Contingency Plan (VACP) for the EUR/NAT Regions with an emphasis on the use of Danger Area, NOTAM and SIGMET and 2) Review the draft VOLCEX19 Exercise Directives.

States that have not yet done so were strongly encouraged to align their national practices on the Safety Risk Assessment (SRA) approach as well as the issuance of Danger Area, NOTAM and SIGMET with the Volcanic Ash Contingency Plan in the EUR/NAT Regions. VOLCEX19 will take place on 20 November 2019 from 0800 – 1600 UTC and the results of the exercise will be reviewed at the VOLCEX19 debrief meeting that will be held in Rome, Italy on 16 January 2020.
The Workshop was attended by a total of thirty-seven (37) participants from nineteen (19) States, two (2) airlines, and five (5) International Organizations.
