Upon request from Romania, instructors from the ICAO EUR/NAT Regional Office held a Safety Management Systems (SMS) implementation course from 1 to 5 April 2013. This course was attended by 29 top aviation professionals from various State and industry organizations in Romania as well as two experts from the Republic of Moldova.
The course topics included basic safety concepts, fundamentals of safety management, hazard identification and risk management, ICAO safety management related provisions, and the development and implementation of SMS. The course aimed at assisting participants– who all passed the final test – in implementing the newly acquired knowledge in their own organizations, either as service providers responsible for implementing SMS or as CAA officials responsible for acceptance and oversight of the service providers’ SMS.
