ESAF Regional Office Statement on Gender Equality
ICAO's Regional Offices serve an important role by facilitating closer support and coordination for Member States. Through this capacity, ESAF Regional Office aims to ensure that the Organization's gender equality goals are reinforced in the activities of the Regions and promote equal opportunities for women across all areas of the aviation industry. ESAF Regional Office is also committed to working closely with Member States to provide guidance, raise awareness on gender issues, and support the creation of gender-sensitive policies to further mainstream gender equality into national aviation practices.
Through these efforts, ICAO strives to remain accountable to its commitments on gender equality at both the global and regional level, contributing to an inclusive and diverse industry for all. ICAO also connects regularly with Member States through its Global Network of Gender Focal Points which provides the opportunity for States to share updates on any events or initiatives related to gender equality that may be taking place within a specific State or region with the overall goal of enhancing awareness and collaboration.
Found out how ESAF Regional Office is promoting gender equality below:
In line with ICAO's Gender Equality Programme and the Sustainable Development Goal 5 of the 2030 Agenda to enhance gender equality, ICAO's Global Aviation Training Section (GAT) is implementing a new initiative to encourage greater female participation in aviation training following the successful launch of its gender equality initiatives.
In an effort to support ICAO's mandate, the General Civil Aviation Authority of the United Arab Emirates (GCAA) is generously funding the training of female professionals in Safety Management (SM) self-paced online course, under the initiative "Unleashing Aviation Excellence: 193 Women Empowerment.
