The UAE, through the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), has contributed to better coordination of accident and incident investigation activities in the Middle East. A proposal for a study on a ‘Joint Investigation Unit’ manpowered by the Arab Civil Aviation Commission (ACAC) member States and a workshop on cooperation for accident investigation activities held in Abu Dhabi in November 2012 attended by eight States (Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia and UAE) and six Organizations (Airbus, Boeing, COSCAP-GS, IATA, ICAO, Air Accident Investigation-Singapore). These activities may lead to the establishment of a Regional Accident and Incident Organization (RAIO).
