PERFORMANCE BASED NAVIGATION (PBN)

The implementation of PBN is presently the global aviation community's highest air navigation priority. The PBN concept offers significant benefits including improved safety through more straight-in instrument approaches with vertical guidance, increased airspace capacity, increased airport accessibility, more efficient operations, reduced infrastructure costs, and reduced environmental impact.

A37-11 Resolution Targets: percentage of implementation of approach procedures with vertical guidance (APV) (Baro-VNAV and/or augmented GNSS), including LNAV-only minima, for all instrument runway ends, either as the primary approach or as a back-up for precision approaches: 30 per cent by 2010 ,70 per cent by 2014, 100 per cent by 2016.
