Summary

GOL airline will use UOP's biofuel for World Cup flights

Brazil’s Gol airlines will use a 4-percent biofuel mixture to power 200 flights this month and next as the Latin American nation hosts the 2014 soccer World Cup.

Honeywell UOP supplied 92,000 liters of fuel for the flights. It is made from inedible corn oil and used cooking oil. Compared with petroleum-based jet fuel, this renewable fuel is announced to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 185 metric tons of CO2 over the course of the event based on life cycle analysis.
