ICAO to Host Launch Event for 2014 Space University in Montreal

​MONTRÉAL, 5   June 2014 – The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is pleased to host world astronauts, leaders of national space agencies, world-renowned academics and researchers, CEOs of international space companies, as well as entrepreneurs from innovative start-ups, to the opening ceremonies of the International Space University’s 2014 Space Studies Programme (SSP2014) on 9 June.

 

As part of its range of 2014 activities celebrating the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Convention on International Civil Aviation, and having recently begun working toward the safe integration of commercial space and civil aviation operations, ICAO is very pleased to host the launch of this prestigious international and intercultural educational event.

 


 

​WHAT:

​A procession of more than 100 SSP2014 participants from over 30 countries will carry their national flags into the ICAO Assembly Hall prior to the opening speeches and reception. Media are welcome for the full event ceremonies and interview opportunities will be provided.

​Other background: ​SSP2014 provides graduate-level training to the future leaders of the emerging global space community. Co-hosted this year by the École de Technologie Supérieure (ETS) and HEC Montréal (HEC), its unique multidisciplinary programme will see these future space leaders choosing from a wide range of cutting-edge lectures, workshops and team projects in and around Montreal over summer 2014, including a rocket launch and robotics competition. Many of the events are open to the public.
